Bio
Carl Frankel has been a writer for over three decades. For about two decades, he's specialized in sustainability, with a focus on green and socially responsible business. 

He's also been a leading-edge social entrepreneur, business executive and consultant.  

Writing 
  • 1980-1989. Owner, Entelechy Corp. Wrote or edited over 80 market studies analyzing the market potential of new electronic technologies. 
  • 1989-1994. Authored a groundbreaking market study called The Green Consumer. This led to his founding and then writing and publishing a business newsletter called Green MarketAlert, which rapidly became one of the country's leading publications on corporate environmentalism and green business practices. 
  • 1994. Ghostwrote a book on environmental marketing that was published by McGraw-Hill. 
  • 1995-2001. North American editor for Tomorrow Magazine, which reported on corporate environmentalism. 
  • 1998. Author, In Earth’s Company: Business, Environment, and the Challenge of Sustainability (New Society). "The best book I have seen about the business aspects of sustainable development” (David Buzzelli, co-chair, President’s Council on Sustainable Development).  
  • 1998-1999. Contributing editor to Yes! The Journal of Positive Futures
  • 2001-2004. Senior columnist for Green@Work Magazine
  • 2004. Author, Out of the Labyrinth: Who We Are, How We Go Wrong, and What We Can Do  About It (Monkfish, 2004). “Takes the literature on sustainability to a new level” (ecological economist Hazel Henderson). "A magnificent book and required reading for anyone who yearns for a better world.” (Ray Anderson, chairman, Interface Flooring Systems) 
  • 2008-2009. Senior writer, Matter Network

Business and Entrepreneurship 
  • 1980-1989. Owner and president, Entelechy Corp. 
  • 1990-1994. Founder and publisher, Green MarketAlert 
  • 2002-2003. Advisor to the chairman and manager, special projects, ManyOne Networks (a cutting-edge and no longer extant company that aimed to create a "PBS of the web") 
  • 2005-2007. Founder and president, Our Community Networks, a social enterprise that owned and operated an online community marketplace with a view toward building community and supporting local businesses and non-profits. 
  • 2007-2008. Vice-president, business development, Matchbin (a web platform company).  
  • 2009-present. Managing director, The Center for the Intimate Arts (an educational organization).

Consulting 
Over the years, Frankel has worked with large corporations, green start-ups, and non-profits. Clients have included Tandus (as a member of the company’s Sustainability Council), the WorldWide Fund for Nature, the Buckminster Fuller InstituteSecond Nature, the Conference BoardCanopy DevelopmentNatural Logic, Ecos Corporation, and many more.
